The Green River City Council voted Tuesday to approve the Parks and Recreation Departmentrequest to submit a Pacific Foundation Community Enhancement Grant application for up to $5,000 to help refurbish the military tank at Veterans Park.
Katie Duncombe, director of Parks and Recreation, said the city has housed the tank, borrowed from the U.S. Army TACOM, since 1998 and has received a $3,000 donation from the American Legion toward the restoration. The department will request $5,000 from the Pacific Foundation and hopes the city will provide the remaining funds as a local match.
The motion to approve submission of the grant application was moved by Councilman Kilpach and seconded by Councilman Berg; the motion carried unanimously.
Why it matters: The restoration will preserve a World War II-era military artifact located in Veterans Park and leverages private donations and potential grant funds to reduce the city's share of restoration costs.
What happens next: Parks staff will submit the $5,000 grant application and return to the council if city matching funds or additional approvals are required.
