Commissioner Gold asked that the county schedule a briefing from the maintenance manager on the status and outlook of county-owned facilities, citing recent discussion about the old jail building and general interest in facility condition and costs.
Gold asked for an overview that would include how many county buildings exist, each building’s age, annual operating costs and short- and long-term plans. Administrator Barry and commissioners discussed that the scope should be limited so the maintenance manager would not have to prepare an extensive multiday report; Barry said the manager has substantial information and could provide either a concise overview or a more detailed briefing if the board requested more.
Commissioner Carlson said she would prefer the presentation framed from a capital-improvement standpoint (long-range replacement planning and whether the county is setting aside adequate funds). Commissioners agreed a streamlined overview would be useful and suggested staff present what they have on hand first, and the board could request additional detail if needed.
