At its April 15 meeting the Common Council confirmed mayoral appointments to legal and committee posts and completed portions of its organizational business. The council confirmed the mayor’s appointment of Jeff Eck as assistant city attorney and confirmed the mayor’s appointment of the city attorney by roll call (the vote on the city attorney passed; one alderman recorded a No on the city attorney vote).
Council members elected Alderman Matt Rosick as council president by acclamation after a single nomination. The council then held a secret ballot for council vice president with two nominations (Alderman Karen Spiegelberg and Alderman Jennifer Altman Kloth). The votes resulted in a tie; council members debated procedure and city attorney guidance indicated the mayor, as a member of the council, may vote in case of a tie. Rather than press the tie to a final vote at the meeting, the council ultimately voted to table the vice‑president election until the next meeting to allow absent members to participate; the council also postponed choosing its council representative to the plan commission.
The mayor also presented committee and board appointments for aldermen and council members; those appointment lists were provided to council members for reference and will be published with meeting materials.
Ending: The confirmed legal appointments take effect immediately; the council president will serve until the council elects otherwise; the vice‑president and plan‑commission representative elections will resume at the next meeting when more members are present.
