McLennan County Commissioners on April 15 approved a reclassification of a vacant office-coordinator position in the Health Services Department to incorporate responsibilities for administering the Child Protective Services (CPS) board functions and program management.
Dustin and Anna (staff) explained the request: the current office-coordinator position has been vacant since December, and the proposal would reclassify the role (moving it up one pay grade) and adjust the salary budget. HR presented a recommended budget change from $54,160 to $59,309 to reflect market comparables and the expanded responsibilities. Staff said no new positions would be created — the reclassification uses the existing vacant slot and the Health Services Department would absorb the functions.
Commissioners discussed how the CPS board and court interact. Staff clarified the court retains final approval authority and that the board’s vote to transfer functions would still require county acceptance. The court approved the reclassification and the budget adjustment by voice vote.
