Tumwater to place two Commerce grant amendments on council consent calendar

The Tumwater General Government Committee voted to place two amendments to Washington State Department of Commerce grants on the council consent calendar for approval and authorization for the mayor to sign.

Brad (city staff) said the first amendment — to the 2025 Comprehensive Plan Climate Planning Grant — does not change the grant amount or end date (June 15, 2025) but changes the scope so the city will submit draft versions of the climate element and the bicycle and pedestrian plan rather than final adopted documents. Brad said city staff and consultants are on schedule to deliver drafts for review before those documents are folded into the larger comprehensive-plan update.

The second amendment, to the Commerce periodic-update grant that supports the comprehensive-plan update under the GMA, likewise changes required deliverables to draft documents and reallocates $12,500 from the economic development plan portion of the grant to the transportation plan. Brad said the economic development plan is not a state-required element and the city expects to resume that update later in the year after hiring a new economic development coordinator; the current grant ends in June and cannot be used for an extended update.

Committee members had no substantive objections and the committee approved placing both amendments on the council consent calendar by voice vote.
