Public Works Director Scott Bitterman described the project as a six‑foot sidewalk extending roughly from Eglin Parkway (near McDonald’s) east past the Little League ball fields to Eleventh Street — nearly a mile in length. The board approved task order No. 1 for design services in the amount of $102,862.49.
Bitterman told the board that the Federal/State Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) funds will support the work and that the Florida Department of Transportation has programmed $1.2 million in its FY26 budget for construction. The design effort with DRMP is expected to be complete near the end of the year.
Why it matters: the sidewalk will provide pedestrian connectivity by the ball fields and local schools and address a frequently requested safety improvement. Commissioners who long advocated for the project said the TAP funding mechanism and interagency coordination delayed but ultimately made the project possible.
