Parks staff preview summer events, concerts, pool opening and zoo updates

Staff members told the Marshfield Parks, Recreation and Forestry Committee on April 9 that summer events and programs are moving forward and that multiple facilities are preparing to open for the season.
Amanda, a parks staff member, said the pool’s tentative opening is set for June and that seasonal staff hiring is nearly complete. She also reported that staff distributed season and day passes for fundraisers and that the department acquired an additional automated external defibrillator to place four units across facilities for program and lifeguard coverage.
Nick (staff) said the City’s summer kickoff with Vista Marshfield and Midwest Communications is scheduled for May 29 to coincide with Dairyfest weekend and that the Hub City concert series will begin May 30; the lineup was scheduled for announcement on April 16. Staff said the concert series will run eight dates and will avoid the July 4 week.
Staff noted a planned balloon rally north of town with an attempted plaza balloon inflation as a weather-dependent teaser event. The zoo manager is newly in place and the zoo’s spring hours are in effect; staff said the zoo will extend evening hours after Memorial Day.
Other updates included successful concession preorders, completion of spring cleanup schedules, repair plans for sewer and stair issues at the Marshall Athletic Complex (noted as facility maintenance items), and the ongoing Greasy Playground fundraising effort; staff reported the playground group has met fundraising targets but did not specify an updated dollar total in the meeting transcript.
Staff asked committee members to contact the department with program questions, and several committee members thanked staff for cleanup work and community outreach.
