Council approves commercial addition and use change for Restore Clean Ohio at 1477 Copley Road

Akron City Council on April 14 approved a conditional use and a commercial addition for Restore Clean Ohio LLC, doing business as CRDN, at 1477 Copley Road, voting 11-0 during a special meeting.

Planning staff told council the petitioner seeks a rear storage/warehouse addition and formal recognition of the business’s expanded use as a commercial restoration company rather than solely a retail cleaning business. Staff said the proposed addition would extend to within 29.5 feet of the Little Street right-of-way, with block base materials to match existing walls and white vertical metal panels above. The petitioner described the building as providing temporary staging and indoor storage to eliminate existing outdoor storage at the rear of the building.

Owner Jeff Sitz of Restore Clean Ohio (CRDN) told council the company has operated at the location for about 20 months and has added 18 jobs, most filled by Akron residents, including at least three employees from the Maple Valley area. Sitz said the expansion will allow the business to operate more efficiently and create additional jobs locally. Planning staff and the planning commission recommended approval subject to 17 conditions; traffic engineering raised no issues, noting box trucks and vans would be loaded or unloaded for short periods and long-term parking would be in the large parking area to the north.

No members of the public spoke for or against the project during the hearing. Councilman Fusco moved for a favorable committee report and asked for passage; the motion carried and the ordinance passed 11-0. Council members thanked the petitioner for hiring locally and expressed support for the business’s continued presence in the Ward 4 business district.
