Planning staff told council the property, built in 1908 and previously used as an office, has sufficient rear yard area to meet off-street parking requirements. The petitioner said the first floor would contain a two-bedroom unit and the basement an additional two-bedroom unit. The City of Akron Housing Division reported no concerns, and both planning staff and the planning commission recommended approval subject to conditions.
During the public hearing one nearby property owner spoke in favor. The speaker said his family had bought the property across the street, performed renovations including adding egress windows to meet fire code, and supported the retention of the two-family dwelling to help preserve neighborhood integrity.
Councilman Fusco moved to pull the committee for a favorable report; the committee recommended approval and council approved the ordinance 11-0. The approval is subject to the conditions listed by planning staff.
