The borough's recreation director updated the caucus on a packed spring schedule that includes an Earth Day cleanup, the Flag Day parade and a large regional track meet on April 19.
The Flag Day parade will begin at 11 a.m. at Community Park and proceed along Bailey Road to the circle, where programming will follow. Recreation staff said the parade route was moved from Church Lane to Bailey Road to reduce conflicts with other activities and cemeteries. The department also plans a drone show, live music, vendors and family activities at Kerr Field.
April 19 is a busy date: a borough-sponsored cleanup in the West Cobbs Creek area is scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon, and the second annual regional track meet will also be at Kerr Field with more than 40 schools expected to participate from Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Recreation staff said the track meet will draw many athletes and require bus staging and police coordination; last year event staffing included multiple officers on overtime and the department will request similar support.
Recreation and police said they will coordinate security plans and bus staging; police noted the need for overtime staffing and partnership with neighboring departments when necessary. Recreation also reported ongoing programs including rain-barrel workshops, vegetable program planning and construction of a rain garden at Community Park.
Ending: Recreation staff asked council to approve or note required police staffing and event logistics in forthcoming scheduling materials; staff will post event details and volunteer sign-ups on the borough website and social channels.
