The Community Development committee recommended approval of two special-event permit requests:
- Oaxaca Margarita Bar & Grill: The applicant requested a Cinco de Mayo event from May 2 to May 5 with a tented area and a DJ from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Staff said the applicant anticipates 50 to 80 patrons and must obtain a special event liquor license for each day. The committee voted to forward the permit request to council with a recommendation of approval.
- Randy’s Rescue Ranch: The applicant requested an art and craft fair on May 24–25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering vendor booths, a 50/50 raffle, rescue merchandise, hayrides, face painting and food sales. Staff said the applicant anticipates 200–400 attendees and will collect applicable sales and food & beverage taxes. The committee discussed parking constraints and noted the applicant plans to stagger attendance through the day and hire security; staff also suggested coordinating parking with a nearby church if needed. The committee voted to forward the permit request to council with a recommendation of approval.
Both requests will go to the full city council for final approval; staff noted required inspections (for tent stability) and liquor-permit conditions must be satisfied before events proceed.
Ending: The permits will appear on the council agenda; staff will continue working with applicants on parking arrangements, tent inspection and licensing requirements.
