Public commenter tells board she was underpaid and urges review of salary-study findings

At the start of the public comment period Chantelle Berry used her allotted three minutes to ask the board to investigate a perceived salary disparity tied to the district’s salary study. Berry said she served as a principal in Cabarrus County Schools from 2022 to 2024 and that she was “grossly underpaid” during that time.
"I stand here before you, to implore you to please look into the salary study that was ...affected me directly," Berry said, adding that she raised the issue with district administrators and the superintendent without receiving correction. Berry said she had requested her contract and that an employment contract arrived only after repeated requests.
Berry told the board she had asked to speak earlier and submitted materials by certified mail; she asked the board to accept documents for distribution to the members. The chair asked staff to accept the materials and pass them to board members.
Board members did not take immediate action on the request during the meeting; the item was recorded in the public comment section and the board moved forward with its agenda.
