Muskego updates private-property I&I project with MMSD; phase 2 underway

Scott, a Muskego public works staff member, told the committee on April 14 that phase 2 of the private-property infiltration and inflow (I&I) project with the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewer District (MMSD) began April 2 and that crews have completed work at six homes so far.
"This work for phase 2 started April or 04/02/2025. Last Friday, we have completed 6 homes, and we have 25 homes remaining," Scott said.
Scott said restoration crews are revisiting phase 1 yards to address settlement and add topsoil and grass seed as needed. He said some properties could not be serviced after field inspection because the lateral work would have required going under foundations; a small number of homeowners declined the work. Overall, Scott said the city expects roughly 80%–90% participation.
During phase 1 staff found three homes with sump pumps directly connected to the sanitary sewer. Scott said two of those households have already disconnected the sump pumps; the third case is eligible for MMSD’s pipe check program and could receive a contractor discount of about $2,500 to $3,000 to reroute the pump away from the sanitary sewer.
No formal committee action was recorded on the item. Scott said staff expects work on the current phase to continue for the next couple of months and that MMSD remains involved in outreach and technical support.
