The USD 453 Board of Education recognized student athletic and extracurricular achievements at its April meeting, presenting certificates to the JROTC rifle team and the boys’ and girls’ wrestling teams and noting the high school bowling team’s state qualification.
First Sergeant George Sutton presented the JROTC rifle team and said the program qualified four teams to a national competition in Ohio for the first time in program history. Board President Mike Carney and Superintendent Kellen J. Adams signed a certificate of appreciation for the team.
The board also presented a certificate of achievement to the Leavenworth High School boys’ and girls’ wrestling teams for qualifying athletes to the 2025 Kansas State Wrestling Championship. Head coach Bill Earnesty described the teams’ academic performance and the program’s emphasis on teamwork, and the board read and acknowledged the names of student qualifiers present at the meeting. The bowling team’s state qualifiers were acknowledged in absentia; the board said it would attempt to invite them to a future meeting for recognition.
Nut graf: The recognitions highlighted student accomplishments in regional and national competitions, and board members thanked coaches, families and staff for their support.
No board action was required for the recognitions; they were presented as part of the meeting’s regular agenda.
