Civil service commission deactivates 37 vacant job classifications, board approves

Chief Examiner Kelsey Pearson presented Resolution 2025-04, which lists 32 information-technology classifications replaced by 13 new IT classes adopted in August 2024, and five additional vacant classifications identified for deactivation. Pearson said affected departments and bargaining units were notified and raised no objections.
A commissioner moved to approve the deactivations and the motion received a second. After brief commentary the commission called the vote and the motion passed.
Commission discussion briefly noted that deactivating classes does not preclude later reinstatement if a future need arises and that past practice sometimes required reactivation when operational demands changed.
The resolution passed at the April meeting; staff will process the deactivations and update classification tables and public records accordingly.
