Retired Educators Foundation awards scholarships to OCPS students and teachers

The Retired Educators Foundation of Orange County announced scholarships totaling several tens of thousands of dollars and named student and teacher recipients at the school board recognition ceremony.
David McGee, chairman of the Retired Educators Foundation of Orange County, told the Orange County School Board the foundation has provided scholarships for the past 12 years from proceeds of earlier housing investments. McGee said the foundation awarded 12 academic scholarships at $2,000 each; 10 Orange Technical College awards at $1,000 each; and two educator awards at $2,000 each.
McGee said the foundation typically awards “over $30,000 to $40,000” each year. At the ceremony he presented $2,000 awards to two teachers, naming Amy Lynn Matson of Cypress Creek High School and Brianna Walsh of Valencia High School as recipients.
Lauren Roth, assistant director of media relations for OCPS, introduced the Retired Educators Association and noted that the group supports both students and teachers. Board members joined the foundation for photos with the recipients.
