The Patrick County Board of Supervisors voted during its regular meeting to direct the county attorney to send a formal letter terminating the previously approved Fairystone solar siting agreement.
County staff described the action as nullifying last year’s approval for the Fairystone Solar Project and said the developer has notified the county it is not moving forward and has reimbursed the county for application-related expenses. “They reimburse us for the application fee. If but if they did want to come back, they would have to go through the process again,” a county staff member said during the meeting.
The board moved and seconded the item and the clerk called the vote. All board members present voted to approve the direction to the county attorney; the board chair announced the ayes. The motion directs the county attorney to prepare and send a termination letter that, once issued, will render the prior approval void. The staff member said any new developer would need to reapply and follow the county’s permitting and review process.
The termination affects the county’s authorized agreement only; staff did not report any immediate additional financial impacts or required follow-up steps beyond the attorney’s letter. The board did not discuss reissuing or revising local solar siting policy at the meeting.
