The Fairbanks North Star Borough School District Board of Education on April 15 adopted a revised 2025–26 academic calendar that adjusts professional development days and adds tentative inclement-weather makeup days.
Administration said an earlier draft omitted a student contact day; to correct that omission the calendar moves one professional-development day to the week before school starts, restoring three pre‑school PD days. The board also approved moving one PD day to Sept. 25 (creating two PD days in a row earlier in the year) and removing PD days previously scheduled in November and April.
The calendar adds two tentative inclement-weather make-up days so that, if used, the district would avoid pushing back the final day of school: April 24 (a current no‑school day) and May 22 (a teacher work day). Administration said the revised calendar was run through the state Department of Education checklist to ensure required student contact days are met.
Administration noted it will consult with represented staff about how to use moved PD days and confirmed that benchmark and data days remain in the schedule. The board adopted the revised calendar by roll-call vote.
