Council issues proclamations, names officer of the month and introduces new Mobile Botanical Gardens director

The council also proclaimed April 2025 as Autism Awareness Month. Councilman William C. Carroll presented the proclamation and representatives of The Learning Tree, a local nonprofit that serves children with autism and developmental disabilities, accepted it and thanked the council.
The council recognized Officer Michael Schimberger as the Mobile Police Department’s Officer of the Month for March 2025; the police chief summarized Schimberger’s recent calls, arrests and investigations that led to the honor.
The council introduced Dr. Cynthia Clemmer as the new executive director of the Mobile Botanical Gardens. Clemmer said her background is in horticulture and public gardens management, most recently in Austin, Texas, and said she intends to expand programming, partnerships and restoration efforts to serve the whole city.
The council also acknowledged several Mobile Parks and Recreation youth basketball city and state champions and recognized the Mobile Hurricanes therapeutic basketball team for earning a bronze medal in the Special Olympics state tournament.
These items were presented as ceremonial business and involved proclamations and recognitions rather than formal council votes.
