City staff described TreeFall as an interdisciplinary show that explores the ecology and metaphor of fallen trees. The exhibit will run three months (staff indicated a September'November window) and will include artist workshops intended for broad public participation.
The commission approved resolution 81-25 to grant "face of the city" approval for the exhibition and resolution 82-25F to appropriate $35,000 from the city's Art in Public Places reserves to facilitate the show. The funding will support exhibition costs; the works are temporary and will return to the artists at the end of the run.
Sibile Canto, director of arts and culture and community building, presented the proposal and described the five participating artists'Molly Aubrey, Isabelle Gouveia, Natalie Ho, Michelle Miller and Eloise Janssen'and their planned public programming. Commissioners asked about the appropriation amount and ownership; staff clarified the works are not city-owned since they are existing pieces rather than commissions.
The motion to approve both resolutions was moved and seconded; the mayor called the vote and the motions carried unanimously.
The exhibit will be funded from the city's Percent for Art program and the Art in Public Places reserves; details about an exact opening date and the full workshop schedule were described as forthcoming from the library and the arts office.
