The Glendale Common Council approved a revised state municipal funding agreement that increases the city’s share for a Green Bay Avenue project by approximately $29,000, bringing the city’s local contribution to $166,000 on a roughly $7.1 million project.
City staff said the change adds an eight-foot asphalt path on the east side of Green Bay Avenue from Good Hope to Rangeline and includes pedestrian crossing improvements at Hemlock and Wending. Staff described the amendment as “a great win at a low cost.” The council approved the updated funding agreement by voice vote after a motion by Alderman Schmelzinger and second by Alderman Bailey.
Officials said an additional portion of the corridor that would have included a sidewalk at a railroad trestle was not included in this phase because that local-share portion would have increased costs; staff said they will pursue grants to fund that element in a later phase.
The agreement authorizes city staff to proceed with design and coordination with the state for the resurfacing and pedestrian improvements as specified.
