During the public comment segment, David Drewicki, a resident of 540 Mill Street, told trustees people frequently cut through what is now a private drive on his property after a pedestrian overpass was closed two years earlier.
Drewicki said the cut-through pedestrian traffic is primarily an annoyance but raised security concerns after a vehicle was stolen from his driveway about a month earlier; the car was recovered. He asked whether the village could post signage indicating the route is private or otherwise limit the cut-through.
Trustees and staff asked for Drewicki’s contact information and said they would work with police and public works to determine property ownership (some parcels in that small area are tollway, village and private property) and explore a solution. Village staff said they would follow up on the jurisdictional questions and coordinate with police and public works to address the concern.
No formal board action was taken at the meeting; staff committed to follow up with the resident.
