The Village Board approved collective-bargaining agreements with the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police Labor Council and with the Illinois Association of Fire Fighters at the April 15 meeting, measures officials said are intended to improve recruitment and retention.
Village President Matt told trustees the village raised starting salaries for police officers and restructured step increases over an 8.5-year schedule so annual increments are more even rather than varying in size across years. For the police agreement the board approved a 3% increase for 2026 and a 3% increase for 2027. The police pay plan still reaches maximum pay after the full step period, but the restructured increments aim to ease retention and recruitment.
For firefighters, the village likewise increased starting pay for new hires and restructured step progression (an eight-year plan was described) to make increments more consistent and help fill long-standing vacancies. The board noted two open firefighter positions and said the changes are intended to reduce chronic overtime demands on current staff.
Both agreements were approved by roll-call vote. Village staff will update payroll tables and manage implementation steps including posting vacancies and adjusting budgets to reflect the agreements.
