HDC asks Tacoma Green to resubmit solar plans, wants fewer panels facing Fairgrounds and Tacoma Way

The Nantucket Historic District Commission reviewed a multi‑building solar proposal for the Tacoma Green development and on April 15 voted to hold the applications for revisions. Commissioners asked the applicant to resubmit clearer roof plans and aerial views showing which roof planes are visible from public ways, and to remove several lower‑roof panels currently oriented toward Fairgrounds Road and Tacoma Way.
Tobias, the project's presenter, told the board the project aims to place most panels on flat roof areas that are parapetted and therefore not visible from street level. "The flat part of the roof... will not be visible," he said, adding that the project team would adjust layouts to address visibility concerns. Commissioners said they were especially concerned about panels sited on lower roof planes or small dormer areas that would be seen from Fairgrounds Road and the Tacoma Way frontage.
After discussion commissioners voted to hold the applications for revisions and asked Tobias to provide roof‑plan diagrams that clearly mark cardinal orientation and show visible panels, plus revised layouts removing the flagged panels. The applicant agreed to return with clearer roof plans and additional visualizations to help the commission assess public visibility and streetscape impacts.
