Board installs new members and elects officers after an unexpected resignation; votes include secretary, treasurer and delegates

The St. Joseph School District Board of Education certified election results, swore in newly elected directors, accepted a board member’s immediate resignation and completed officer elections Tuesday night.

The board certified the April results by motion and recorded the vote (the chair announced the motion passed 6‑0 when a member was absent). The board then administered the oath of office to two newly elected directors who signed their oaths and took their seats.

Earlier in the meeting, one board member announced an immediate resignation, saying the position was “costing [them] peace” and stating they would “resign my position from the board effective immediately.” The resignation was announced on the record; the transcript does not show a separate formal acceptance vote.

The meeting proceeded to elect officers. After multiple rounds of roll call voting and tied ballots for the presidency, the board elected Latonya Williams as president by roll call (Williams received a majority of votes in the final roll call). For vice president, the board elected Rhonda Chesney by roll call; the chair declared a majority had voted for Chesney and turned the meeting over to her.
