Residents voice strong opposition to proposed West Side amphitheater at planning commission meeting

Two Yukon residents used the public comment period at the April 14 Planning Commission meeting to urge commissioners and, ultimately, the City Council to oppose a proposed amphitheater on the city's West Side.
"Once the amphitheater is built, the noise problems are forever," said Bill, identified in the record as a Ward 3 resident. He cited examples from other cities — Virginia Beach, Mountain View, Austin — saying neighbors there experienced persistent amplified noise and high complaint volumes despite mitigation promises. Bill also raised traffic and public‑safety concerns, asking commissioners to oppose variances, noise waivers and any taxpayer funding or TIF arrangements related to the project.
Joe Doan, a resident of Ward 4 who gave his address as 704 Sidetrack Road, also urged a broader public decision process. "If it's going to cost us, the residents, this much money or impact our taxes and stuff, let's not leave it just a handful of people to decide," Doan said. "Bring it to a vote." He said residents across the affected neighborhoods should be able to weigh in.
Commissioners opened the floor to visitors at the end of the agenda and reminded speakers that the planning commission cannot act on items not on the agenda; both comments were submitted during that public comment period.
