BOCES funding cut proposed; Rec Board and Casper Area Education Foundation award grants and scholarships

The Natrona County Recreation Joint Powers Board awarded three grants: $30,000 to Platte River Judo for equipment and scholarships, $5,000 to the Casper Housing Authority for a Father’s Day event, and $20,000 to the Casper Water Ski Club to support an accessible youth water-skiing and safety program. The Rec Board plans to meet again in September.
The Casper Area Education Foundation reviewed scholarship applications and will soon contact award recipients. The board also acknowledged a series of small donations: $1,225 to reduce student lunch debt from First Interstate Bank, a $500 anonymous donation for the district homeless program, and smaller gifts to NCHS DECA, FFA and the swim team.
Trustees said the grants and scholarships support extracurricular and postsecondary opportunities for district students and that tighter grant budgets will require future prioritization.
