Driver cited for DUI after high-centered crash; officer reports cannabis odor

The Mount Vernon Police Department said officers responded on March 15 at approximately 8:31 a.m. to a crash in which a vehicle had become high-centered on a center island dividing streets.
On-scene officers reported evidence of cannabis in the vehicle and said the driver showed signs of possible impairment. An officer asked the driver, “When's the last time you smoked cannabis?” The driver replied, “Probably yesterday.” After voluntary field sobriety tests, officers obtained a search warrant for the driver's blood and cited the driver for driving under the influence.
The department noted that it has investigated several DUIs in March but that none of the recent incidents resulted in a serious crash. The department reminded the public not to drive after consuming alcohol or cannabis.
