The Mount Vernon Police Department said officers responded to a potential domestic violence incident on the 25th at approximately 10:22 p.m. and found a man at the residence who was in violation of a court order and had multiple outstanding warrants.
Upon contact, the department said the man was armed with a knife and initially fled from officers. The responding officers contained the subject and, according to the department, “kept their distance and took time to negotiate with the subject.” After being allowed to smoke a cigarette, the man was taken into custody voluntarily.
The department credited neighboring agencies for assisting with the situation and said the incident ended peacefully. The department did not provide the arrestee's name or specify the exact court order violated in the monthly recap.
