Renton resident praises community response to anti-queer protest at Brewmaster's Taproom

Gabriel Jones, a Renton resident, described patrons, parents and other community members showing up to lend support and said volunteers and on-site security helped de-escalate tensions. "This weekend, the patrons of the bar, the children attending the story hour, and the community overall was incredibly lucky for the support that the community showed," Jones said.
Jones acknowledged that a small number of people "arrive to spread anti queer hatred and propaganda," but said the response from the broader community — people wearing pride flags, a DJ playing music and visible security — prevented serious incidents. "We are here for our queer people. We are here for this community, and we aren't going anywhere," he said.
The remarks were submitted during the public-comment portion of the council meeting; there was no policy action tied to the account of the weekend's events.
