The Camdenton R-III Board of Education on April 14 voted to table certification of the April election results and associated reorganization agenda items after the district learned another candidate had filed for a recount.
Board members said state law gives the district 14 days to certify. The Missouri School Boards’ Association (MSBA) advised the board that, when a recount petition is known to be forthcoming, the usual practice is to table certification until the recount process completes. The board moved to follow MSBA’s recommendation and postpone certification to the board’s next meeting, scheduled for April 22.
During the motion to table, one board member said they needed to abstain from the vote because the election involved the board itself; the motion nevertheless carried. Board members specified the reorganization agenda tied to the certification would also be taken up at the April 22 meeting.
The board did not take a formal final action on any contested race; it only delayed certification. No recount outcome was reported at the meeting.
The action preserves the district’s ability to meet the statutory certification window while allowing the recount process to conclude. The district clerk and board will revisit certification and the reorganization agenda at the next scheduled meeting.
