Seal Beach proclaims April 25, 2025 as Arbor Day; city reconfirmed as Tree City USA

Mayor Lisa Landau and the Seal Beach City Council proclaimed April 25, 2025, as Arbor Day in Seal Beach and recognized the role of trees in stormwater management, air quality and community beautification.

The proclamation recounted Arbor Day’s origin with J. Sterling Morton and listed the local benefits of trees, including reduced stormwater runoff pollutants, particulate filtration, wildlife habitat, energy-cost savings and increased property values. Mayor Landau said she affixed her signature and the city seal to the proclamation.

City Arborist Talarico accepted the proclamation on behalf of the Public Works Department and thanked the council for supporting tree-planting initiatives and urban-forestry stewardship. Talarico said trees “provide clean air, offer shade, reduce urban heat, and enhance the beauty of our city,” and called the proclamation both a celebration and a reminder to preserve and expand the urban forest.

Talarico also announced that Seal Beach had been reconfirmed as a Tree City USA community, saying the city’s application was approved that day and that the designation “reflects our ongoing commitment to our environment and stewardship in urban forestry.” No council vote was recorded for the proclamation during the meeting’s public record; the mayor presented and signed the proclamation during the agenda item and the arborist addressed the council.

The proclamation and the Tree City USA reconfirmation were presented as recognition of ongoing programs: speakers encouraged continued tree planting, care programs and community education to sustain the urban forest.
