Board approves Mid Mountain Fest and Boxerwood outdoor events permits

The Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors approved two outdoor event permit applications at its April 14 meeting.
Mid Mountain Fest — Applicant Andrea Peterson sought permission for two intersectional arts festivals at 338 Arnold’s Valley Road (Natural Bridge Station) on May 17 and Oct. 25, 2025. Staff said the sheriff’s office and fire‑rescue reviewed and suggested improvements to parking and fire-safety plans that have been incorporated into final documents. Peterson told the board the event will feature free programming, a farmers market and community partners; she said last year’s event went smoothly. The board voted to approve the permit.
Boxerwood Education Association — Executive Director Emily Cole requested approval for four events at the Boxerwood property (963 Ross Road, Lexington address but in the county). County staff said prior Boxerwood events had no reported issues and the sheriff and fire‑rescue had reviewed and signed off on parking and fire‑safety plans. Cole thanked the board and noted the sheriff and fire chief had walked the grounds with her. The board approved the Boxerwood permit.
Staff said the board has the authority to approve permits as presented or with additional conditions; in both cases the sheriff and fire‑rescue had provided written review and suggested improvements that were incorporated into the final plans.
