County council advertises jail housing and opioid fund appropriations, temporarily adjusts assessor deputy position

The council voted to advertise an additional appropriation of $107,583 out of the jail housing fund to move a jail commander position's funding into jail housing. The motion specified the funding breakdown that Sheila provided: regular salary of $82,009.34, FICA $6,003.45, PERF $9,002.89 and health benefits $9,015, totaling $107,583. Council members moved and seconded the advertisement and the motion carried.
The council also authorized advertising up to $15,000 from the opioid fund (fund 12.37) to cover salary, FICA and related costs for a deputy position funded in that account. Staff said the actual figure was approximately $13,000 and that advertising the larger number puts the item on the May docket with a safe ceiling for budget planning.
On personnel structure the council temporarily vacated the chief deputy assessor position and replaced it with a temporary regular deputy position because the assessor currently employs three full-time staff and has not designated a chief deputy. The motion carried by voice vote.
Council members also adopted confirmation summaries for employee changes and authorized the council president to sign them. They discussed a previously approved reorganization in the sheriff's office and moved forward to advertise the jail-housing appropriation that would fund changes approved during that reorganization.
Ending: Officials said the advertised appropriations will be formally considered at the May meeting and that staff will return with finalized resolution language and pay-line details. The assessor's personnel reclassification is temporary until the assessor names a chief deputy and the council may revisit the position then.
