Hoffman Estates conducts interviews for senior and arts commission openings

Connor Schwarz, a recent hire with the Hoffman Estates Park District, told trustees he has been on the job about four weeks as the district—s adult and senior program coordinator and previously spent about three years at Evanston—s standalone senior center overseeing cultural arts, special events and Medicare-related SHIP work. He said he grew up in Hoffman Estates and attended MacArthur Elementary, Eisenhower and Hoffman Estates High School.
Schwarz said Carrie Militich, his immediate supervisor, encouraged him to apply so he could learn more about the community; trustees indicated they will move forward with an appointment at the next Board of Trustees meeting.
Carrie Militich, who identified herself as superintendent of community outreach for the Hoffman Estates Park District, described a new title and expanded role that will include more village collaboration and senior outreach. Militich said she applied to serve on Fourth Fest and the Arts Commission and signaled interest in the Cultural Awareness Commission; she said she has more than 20 years of experience in parks and recreation and will help coordinate children—s events for Fourth Fest.
Trustees and staff also advised the applicants of upcoming committee and luncheon dates so they could meet commission members; Schwarz confirmed he is available for several weekday meetings. No formal appointment votes were taken during the interviews; trustees said appointing action will occur at the Board of Trustees meeting noted by staff.
The interviews were conducted as part of the board-and-commissions interview agenda item and generated no formal committee motions at the session.
Looking ahead, trustees said appointments will be placed on the next board meeting agenda for formal approval.
