Avery Elementary students and staff highlight ‘One Book, One School’ literacy program

Avery Elementary’s principal, assistant principal and student leaders presented the school’s One Book, One School literacy program and shared examples of students’ work and community activities.
The school described the program’s goals: create a shared literacy experience, build connections among students and families, and encourage discussion of book themes. Staff listed past titles and culminating activities: Wishtree (which prompted creating an Avery wish tree), A Boy Called Bat (which led to an ability-awareness morning with outside partners), and the current year’s picture book Share Your Rainbow. Teachers and students described student-led activities, town-hall-style celebrations, and teacher and librarian roles in the selection and distribution of books.
