A county IT/vehicle maintenance staff member described a month‑long demo and said the plug‑in hardware reports live vehicle data — tire pressure, fuel, error codes and maintenance alerts — which the county can use to schedule repairs and retire vehicles sooner. “I have the money in the budget under maintenance to purchase this. There's no additional funding needed. It's just a contract with Samsara,” the presenter said.
Staff said the vendor quoted roughly $4,000 per year plus a $400 hardware component and that the contract price is locked for three years; the presenter also noted a 90‑day cancellation window if the county decides to discontinue the service after the first year. Commissioners asked staff to seek payment terms other than an ACH wire, which the county does not routinely use.
The court approved entering the contract subject to final review and payment‑term negotiation. Staff said the purchase will be drawn from existing maintenance budgets and no budget amendment is required.
