RSU 10 board approves trip, preschool days request, facilities planning policy and sabbatical; sabbatical vote draws two dissenting votes
Summary

Votes at a glance:
- Mountain Valley High School overnight trip to Boston (May 3–5, 2025): Approved. Motion made by Peter, seconded by Bonnie. The board approved the request for grades 9–12 to travel overnight to Boston; presenters indicated five to six chaperones would attend and the trip is open to grades 9–12.
- Request to the Department of Education for three preschool closure days (Oct. 9–11, 2024) due to mold at Mountain Valley Middle School: Approved. Motion made by Peter, seconded by Allison. The chair said the district will forward the required request letter to the Department of Education.
- Second reading and adoption of revised FB Facilities Planning policy: Approved. Motion made by Lisonbee, seconded by Peter. The board voted to adopt the revised policy as presented in the packet.
- One-year sabbatical request from Heidi Campbell for the 2025-26 school year: Approved (two opposed). Motion made by Lisonbee, seconded by Peter. The sabbatical would be paid in accordance with the district’s contract; administrators confirmed the intended replacement for the title-funded position will be funded from district sources because Title I grant funds cannot be used to pay sabbatical costs. Two board members voted in opposition; the motion carried.
Several other routine approvals — including approval of minutes and the March 31 budget-workshop minutes — were granted by unanimous voice votes earlier in the meeting. The board also entered executive session later in the evening to consider a student-discipline matter under 1 M.R.S. §4056(b).
Administrators reminded the board that the next steps on budget matters will be reflected in the revised budget draft and that the district will continue to prepare for the new Mountain Valley Community School’s opening and related transitional issues.
