Moorhead — The Moorhead City Council recognized A Place for Hope Recovery and Wellness Center with a MoreHeart award on April 14 for its food pantry and community services.
Government affairs director Lisa Vody introduced the recognition, citing monthly pantry service that supports “hundreds of individuals and families” and described the organization as “an example of compassion and action here in Moorhead.” Patricia Pemble nominated the organization, noting caseworkers rely on the pantry as a lifeline for clients.
At the podium, a representative identified as Daryl thanked volunteers and gave distribution figures: “Last year, we gave out 556,000 pounds of food to 12,000 families or 30,000 individuals, and we did it with the help of about 12,000 volunteer hours,” he said. Daryl said the pantry operates like a small grocery store and emphasized volunteer support and dignity for clients.
Ending: Council members thanked the group and noted the pantry’s volunteer base — staff and presenters said roughly 30–40 volunteers serve each month — and praised its role in the local safety net.
