Commission postpones several site-plan applications including convenience store and two hotels
Summary
Three site-plan applications — a new convenience store and two hotels (Tru by Hilton and TownePlace Suites) — were postponed again while staff await updated submittals; the commission discussed repeated delays, an outside engineer (Michael Smith) and a plan to remove items from the agenda if no materials arrive at the next meeting.

The planning commission postponed three site-plan applications — a proposed convenience store and two hotel projects (Tru by Hilton and TownePlace Suites) — after staff reported they had not received required additional materials.
For the convenience-store application (agenda item 2410001), the moderator said he had not received new information from the applicant and asked that the item be postponed to the next meeting. Commissioners noted the item has appeared multiple times and estimated it had been postponed at least three regular meetings. One commissioner recommended removing the item from future agendas if the applicant did not submit materials by the next meeting.
Staff reported that an outside engineer contracted to assist on one application is Michael Smith, who operates Sun Engineering and is a former ALDOT permit manager. Commissioners suggested staff contact the engineer and the applicant to determine whether they remain committed to the project; staff said the application had been "off and on since October." The two hotel site-plan items (agenda items 25030303 and 25030304) were also postponed; staff and commissioners said those projects appear to be moving slowly but remain under consideration.
No formal vote tallies were recorded for the postponements beyond the commission's unanimous direction in the work session and subsequent acknowledgement during the regular meeting that the items would be postponed.
