Lawrence County approves $500,000 RCAP grant for Stonecrest park water lines

The Lawrence County Board of Commissioners on April 15 approved Resolution 79 to accept a $500,000 RCAP (Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program) grant for Phase 2 of infrastructure work at the Stonecrest multi-tenant industrial park in New Beaver Borough.
Diane Richardson, who presented the item for the Lawrence County Economic Development Corporation, said the county previously received a $500,000 RCAP grant and that the new award will help fund water lines across the park. "This is actually the second RCAP grant for this project. We've received $500,000 in the past, and this is again another $500,000 grant," Richardson said during the meeting.
The commissioners heard that the full water- and sewer-related project at Stonecrest is about $1,000,000 and is being done in conjunction with Pennsylvania American Water Company; RCAP funding will cover about half of that work. Richardson said the park encompasses about 205 acres and that build-out could eventually include as much as 1,500,000 square feet of development when complete.
Commissioners praised the speed of site work since the park's conversion from a former golf course. Commissioner Dan Kennedy and other commissioners noted the benefits to the Mohawk Area School District and the borough of New Beaver, and thanked county economic development staff and private partners for ongoing work to prepare the site for tenants.
The board voted unanimously to adopt Resolution 79. The motion carried on a roll-call vote recorded as yes by each commissioner present.
The resolution authorizes the county to accept and administer the RCAP grant for Stonecrest Phase 2 water-line construction and to proceed with contract adjustments or agreements necessary to implement the work. No public comment was recorded on the item during the meeting.
