Applicant told to correct manager-of-record entry; commission approves VJ Auto and Rims license

The City of Springfield License Commission on April 9 approved a new license for VJ Auto and Rims, a tires-and-rims business at 1576 State Street, but staff asked the applicant to correct a manager-of-record discrepancy on the application.

Victor S. Jimenez appeared and described ownership of multiple locations, saying he operates stores and that his son runs day-to-day management at the new site. The application on file, however, listed Victor S. Jimenez as the manager of record. Commission counsel, Attorney Smith, advised that if the son is the manager of record the application should be corrected; she said she would look into whether a manager may be listed at multiple locations for this license type.

"It's because I never told them how to put the manager names in there," Jimenez said, describing the annual application process. The chair noted the discrepancy and instructed Jimenez to update the application if the son, Alex, is intended to be the manager of record.

Despite the paperwork issue, the commission voted to approve the license for the business. Staff told the applicant they could either proceed with the owner listed as manager of record or correct the application to list a separate manager; counsel said she would research whether one person may be manager of record at multiple sites for this license type.

Ending: The applicant was told to bring corrected paperwork or clarify manager-of-record information with the license office to avoid future problems.
