Dunn County CJCC creates special committee to oversee Crime Prevention Funding Board

The Dunn County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council executive committee voted to establish a special committee to oversee the Dunn County Crime Prevention Funding Board and to organize the board's required public meetings.

Sarah, a CJCC staff member, told the committee the group had previously tabled the item while county counsel and the county manager reviewed whether the board’s meetings must be public. "We're looking at an oversight role for the CJCC where we'll help organize, set up and announce these public meetings," Sarah said.

Sarah said membership for the Crime Prevention Funding Board is set out in the statute that governs that board and that CJCC bylaws allow the council’s executive committee to recommend formation of special committees to handle specific problems. "Special committees shall report their information and recommendations to the council," she said while proposing the creation of the committee.

With no substantive discussion, the committee voted in favor of forming the special committee. The committee will handle the oversight responsibilities and the public-notice duties required by law, and report back to the CJCC.

The committee also approved routine minutes earlier in the meeting and discussed other CJCC business, but took no additional action on the Crime Prevention Funding Board beyond creating the special committee.
