Plano urges manual sprinkler use, offers rebates for smart controllers

Stoler said the city allows watering “up to twice a week,” but noted that twice-weekly watering is often unnecessary depending on recent or expected rain. He advised residents to “avoid watering if it has recently rained or if rain is expected,” and to refrain from watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to “minimize water loss from evaporation.”
The guidance aims to reduce runoff and water waste. Stoler encouraged homeowners to check sprinkler controllers and heads regularly and to address visible runoff “ASAP.” He said upgrading to a smart controller or installing a rain-free sensor could make residents eligible for a water conservation rebate, and that “complete details can be found at plano.gov/waterrebates.” The city’s watering guidelines are available at plano.gov/watering.
Stoler also cited regional growth as context for the conservation push, saying, “With more than 60,000 new residents moving into the North Texas Municipal Water District every year, conserving our water resources becomes increasingly critical every year.”
