Lawrenceburg Main Street director introduced as redevelopment grants pick up

Rebecca Laverne was introduced to the Lawrenceburg Redevelopment Commission on April 7 as the city’s new Lawrenceburg Main Street director. "I am Rebecca Laverne, the new Lawrenceburg Main Street Director," she told the commission, saying the program "exists to protect and multiply the city's investments, turning our city's vision to be a city on the rise into a thriving reality."
The commission’s financial report showed a redevelopment balance of $1,153,753.30 as of April 7. Commission staff reported Main Street grant activity is increasing as weather warms: a new-business action grant was awarded to the Ridge Winery, and staff said Gail is leading grant administration while Laverne gets up to speed. "Gail is on the front of the grant administration process right now as Becca gets up to speed on it," a staff member said.
Commission staff also asked the board to prepare an additional appropriation from the redevelopment fund to cover the remainder of the new home purchase grant program; staff said the appropriation would fund three additional homes. The request is not yet a formal transfer: staff explained funds must move from one internal account into another before the commission can take formal action to transfer them. "It's not urgent, but it takes a little bit to get through that process," a staff member said.
The commission agreed that Main Street representation at future meetings will be handled by Laverne or Gail as needed. Laverne thanked the commission and the mayor for supporting Main Street grant programs and said she looks forward to administering the grants and working with the commission.
