County to hire youth diversion and truancy specialist; Sirona Recovery staff to begin home‑based services

Sawyer County Health and Human Services reported April 8 that it has hired a youth diversion and truancy specialist who is scheduled to begin work June 1. The specialist was described as an individual already working with the Hayward School District, which staff said will help with existing connections to students and families.
County staff also said they have contracted workers from Sirona Recovery to provide more intensive in‑home services for families with students who have sustained school absences; letters to referred families will begin going out and some Sirona staff will also support youth justice (YJ) cases. At the time of the meeting staff reported eight referrals related to 10‑day school drops; the program will initially focus on those cases and will coordinate first with Lac Courte Oreilles (LCO) School.
Staff characterized the effort as a program build with anticipated bumps during implementation; they did not identify specific long‑term funding changes or additional budget approvals tied to the hires at the April 8 meeting.
