Veterans service office reports steady caseload, $93,000 in retroactive payments and upcoming staff training

Veterans Service Officer Gary Elliott told the Sawyer County Administrative Committee the veterans service office remains busy and reported recent casework results and outreach statistics.
Elliott said the office logged several hundred service contacts last month, including phone calls, correspondence and office visits. The office submitted 41 disability compensation and pension claims to date and received retroactive payments "a little over $93,000" for claims decided in veterans' favor.
Elliott said the county continues co‑management with the La Crosse Vet Center for counseling services; he reported multiple individual and group counseling sessions last month and ongoing outreach such as "coffee and conversation" events. He cited growth in social‑media engagement: the veterans office Facebook page increased to about 178 followers (up seven), logged roughly 256 visits, 291 contact interactions and approximately 9,100 views of content.
Elliott said he and a staff member will attend annual training in Superior from the fifth through the ninth of next month and that the office will close during that week. He also said a follow‑up training in Minneapolis is under consideration.
Committee members thanked Elliott and staff for their work. No committee action was taken; the report was acknowledged.
