Board members discussed plans for possible renovation or reconfiguration of the Corn Palace and were told the council will hear a presentation from architect Robin Miller of Shemer at the next council meeting. The board was encouraged to attend and provide public input during that open meeting.
Jeff said the council asked the architect, who has worked with the city before, to present multiple options and solicit public comments. The board discussed that options considered several years ago remain available but that the current focus would be a scaled-down, east-side modification rather than the more extensive options considered previously.
Board members emphasized the two-fold purpose of potential changes: increasing flexible floor space to accommodate trade shows, boat or home shows and similar events, while also exploring seating changes. No request for the sports board to fund the Corn Palace renovation was made at this meeting; Jeff said he did not believe the request for this board’s financial contribution was expected.
Robin Miller is scheduled to present to the council at its next meeting; board members were urged to attend that open session and offer their feedback there.
