Staff said the proposal would convert an existing garage into two additional bedrooms and bathrooms, expand office space within the facility, maintain the existing emergency exit and update the parking layout to provide eight conforming spaces. “Staff recommends approval,” the city planner said during the presentation.
The property is in the RA-1 (residential apartment) zoning district and the presentation noted surrounding zoning is RA-1 in the city and R-1 in the county, with adjacent multifamily and single-family residential land uses. Staff reported no environmental constraints, adequate site space, and that traffic circulation and public services would remain compliant and served by city utilities and emergency services. The staff presentation stated that activity authorized by the CUP must begin within 18 months of approval and that the project must comply with applicable zoning, building and fire safety codes.
During the public hearing no public comments were recorded in the meeting transcript. A planning commissioner moved to adopt staff report KCUDash25Dash1 and recommend approval to the Kalispell City Council, and another commissioner seconded the motion. Roll call recorded votes in favor from Joshua Borgart, Doug Kaufman, Rory Young and Chad Graham; the motion carried.
