Commissioners approve drought-related fireworks restriction, a series of proclamations and routine resolutions

The Grant County Board of County Commissioners on April 10 voted unanimously to adopt a proclamation declaring extreme or severe drought conditions in unincorporated Grant County and to impose fireworks restrictions, then approved several other proclamations and routine resolutions without substantive public testimony.
The board opened a public hearing on whether to impose firework restrictions and received no public testimony before closing the hearing and voting to approve a drought proclamation imposing restrictions on fireworks in unincorporated Grant County. Commissioners then approved proclamations recognizing National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week (April 14–19, 2025), Fair Housing Month (April 2025) and the 10th anniversary of Continental Divide Trail Days. All proclamations passed by voice vote.
The board also approved a number of routine items and resolutions by unanimous voice votes, including: approval of the regular meeting agenda; approval of the consent agenda (which included minutes and routine reports); a procurement to install and remove a lift for the fleet department; acceptance of the Grant County Detention Center annual inspection report; approval of an asset-disposal list; Amendment No. 2 to Resolution R-24-31 (details not discussed on the record); two resolutions to authorize submission of airport aid applications to the Federal Aviation Administration (identified in the meeting as R-25-24 and R-25-26); Resolution R-205-207 declaring the county’s eligibility and intent to submit an application for Ridge Road to the New Mexico Department of Transportation; and Budget Adjustment Request Resolution I-25-28.
Where motions were recorded, the meeting minutes show commissioner Medina frequently as mover and various commissioners (including Flores, Shali and Stevens) as seconders; all recorded votes on these items were ‘‘Aye’’ and each motion carried. The hearing on fireworks produced no speakers; the drought proclamation was approved following the closed hearing. No formal amendments or opposing votes were recorded on the listed items.
